Mistress Mary

We've started to hang a few pictures and such here and there around the house. I was working on Liam's room this morning. His room doesn't have a real theme to it since we didn't know if he was a boy or a girl.

His bedding is vintage-y nursery rhymes. So I purchased these playing card type things with nursery rhyme pictures on one side and then the nursery rhyme written on the other side. Like so....
I thought it would be cute to frame and hang in his room. I was sorting through the and decided to nix the "feminine" ones like Mary Had a Little Lamb and Polly (whoever the heck that is) but then came along Mistress Mary. Are you familiar with a nursery rhyme called Mistress Mary??? WTH!!!???
Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With cockleshells, and silver bells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Look at her all smug, smelling her flower. Hel-llloooo boys....
Needless, to say we are sticking to Humpty Dumpty, Little Boy Blue and Jack be Nimble.
I decided to find out what cockleshell is and didn't have much luck. Some sources say it's a clam others a flower. The above version of Mary, Mary Quite Contrary...is from 1744!!

I totally remember Mary. My Maw Maw was big on nursery rhymes with us.
Another thing I think is cute for baby rooms --that I have seen? A collage of family baby pictures.
I plan on doing something like this when I have a kid. My b/f did it and i'm copying her :)
